SAN FRANCISCO -- Two endangered falcons have begun nesting on the 30th floor of the Equity Office's at 201 Mission in San Francisco and a live Web cam is now installed in order to catch the entire nesting process that should last months. The birds are named George and Gracie.Click Here For Live Web Cam Link
The Santa Cruz Predatory Bird Research Group set up the Web cam to catch the nesting. The camera is set up on the PG&E building across the street. The female falcon should continue nesting through June. If all goes well the Web cam should catch pictures of the baby chicks after they hatch. The falcon nest was discovered when window washers were attacked while trying to clean the windows of the Equity building. Falcons are very protective of their nests. The same falcon couple has previously nested at the PG&E building. The recovery of the Peregrine falcon population in North America has been called the most successful wildlife conservation project in history. After more than two decades of recovery and management work, Peregrines were removed from the federal endangered species list on Aug. 20, 1999.They remain listed as state endangered and fully protected in California.
