Alleged Toll Bridge Robber, Shooter Due In Court

A man charged with robbing and shooting a Golden Gate Bridge toll collector in April is scheduled to appear in San Francisco Superior Court on Tuesday.Marcellus Cooksey allegedly shot a female toll taker in the head and neck at about 9:30 p.m. on April 9.Cooksey, who was allegedly driving a stolen car, ran from the toll plaza and was wounded in the leg as he exchanged gunfire with police, authorities said.
The toll taker who was shot is still recovering and has not yet returned to work said, Mary Currie, spokeswoman for the Golden Gate Bridge and Highway and Transportation District."Her wounds are healing and rehab is going well -- slow and steady," Currie said.Currie added that the victim is considering returning to work sometime this fall.Cooksey has been charged with two counts of attempted murder, second-degree robbery, taking a vehicle without consent and two counts of assault with a semi-automatic rifle, according to the district attorney's office.He pleaded not guilty to the charges on April 18.In addition, Cooksey was also charged in May by the Solano County District Attorney's Office with robbing another toll collector at the Carquinez Bridge, just three days prior to the Golden Gate Bridge shooting.Cooksey is scheduled to appear in San Francisco Superior Court for a 9 a.m. discovery hearing in Department 12.
