An off-duty highway patrol officer walked into a burglary in progress in his own home in the South Bay.

Police say the officer arrived at his home in Campbell and found the suspected burglar in his house.

He shot the man, who then ran out of the house. The officer eventually caught him.

The man is being treated at a hospital. Police say he will likely be booked on burglary charges.
