Mail Thief To Wear Sign: 'I Have Stolen Mail'

24-Year-Old Sentenced To 100 Hours Wearing Sandwich Board

POSTED: 10:28 a.m. PST February 26, 2003

A San Francisco man convicted of mail theft will not only have to do time, he will also have to wear a sign denouncing his crime as part of his sentence.

Shawn Gementerea, 24, must spend 100 hours in front of a post office with a sign saying "I have stolen mail. This is my punishment." He'll also serve two months in prison.

Gementerea stole more than 40 pieces of mail back in 2001, including a check for more than $1,500.
