GUSTINE, Calif. -- A boy alleging he was sexually abused during football camp last summer filed a civil lawsuit against local school officials and three older teammates. In the lawsuit filed Thursday by the boy and his mother in Madera County Superior Court, the boy alleges three older players assaulted him with the nozzle of an air mattress pump during a three-day football camp at Liberty High School. He was 14 years old at the time of the alleged assault.
The suit names three players and the Gustine and Golden Valley school districts.Another boy alleging that he, too, was abused at the camp filed a federal lawsuit in May. The boy, who was 14 when he attended the camp, alleges that four upperclassmen attacked him with a battery-operated air pump while others held him down. The boys' names were not released because they are minors.Former Gustine varsity football coach Carl Scudder, who is named in both suits, was placed on administrative leave after the alleged incidents.
