SAN FRANCISCO -- Police said a San Francisco police officer has been charged with having sex with a 14-year old prostitute, NBC 11 reported.

Police said Sgt. Donald Forte, 58, was arrested last Thursday night in Oakland when police officers found him with the prostitute in his car.

Forte appeared in an Alameda County courtroom Monday, but he did not enter a plea.

He is facing one felony count of committing a lewd act on a child.

If convicted he faces up to three years in prison and would have to register as a sex offender.

Forte is a motorcycle squad supervisor and has been with the department for more than 35 years, officials said.

He was released on a $138,000 bail.
