SJ Law Professor Charged With Possessing Child Pornography

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- A professor who spent a term at Santa Clara University Law School last year was charged in federal court in San Jose on Tuesday with possessing child pornography on two computers.Murdaugh Stuart Madden Jr., 58, is a former professor at Pace Law School in New York who spent a term as a visiting professor at Santa Clara University last year, according to U.S. Attorney Scott Schools.Madden was charged by prosecutors in a document known as an information with one count of possessing child pornography on March 31, 2006.
He is scheduled to be arraigned before U.S. Magistrate Harold Lloyd in San Jose on May 10.The information also seeks forfeiture of two laptop computers on which he allegedly possessed child pornography. One was issued to him by Pace Law School and the other was made available to him by Santa Clara University during his term as a visiting professor, Schools said.The maximum possible penalty for the charge is 10 years in prison, but if Madden is convicted, his sentence would be determined after consideration of federal sentencing guidelines.
