Californians are getting a rare, close-up look at some killer whales.

A pod of about 60 Orcas have temporarily taken up residence off Monterey Bay, way south of their usual home off the coast of Washington.

The Orcas are the only killer whale that is considered endangered, according to NBC11.

Marine biologists believe the salmon supply is running out in the Pacific Northwest, and the whales moved south to Monterey to feast on salmon there.

Scientists said this particular group is the most unique in the world.

"They're a very animated group of killer whales. There is lots of activity, feeding breaching, a very exciting day," Marine Biologist Nancy Black said.
