SAN FRANCISCO -- The sex scandal at San Francisco City Hall is turning into a financial scandal.

The city attorney's office is reviewing payroll records of Ruby Rippey-Tourk, the former appointment secretary for Mayor Gavin Newsom with whom he has addmitted having an affair.

Supervisor Chris Daly, the chair of the budget finance committee, said the amount of money Rippey-Tourk was paid last year is suspicious.

"It seems there are significant questions about whether people are getting paid for time that's not worked," said Daly.

Newsom disputes the claim.

"I have absolute confidence that everything was done above board. In fact, I've been assured of that from people who were involved it's a personnel matter so you have to be sensitive to that there are strong legal issues," said Newsom.

A representative for Rippey-Tourk said her co-workers donated their sick time to help her pay the bills while she was in rehab.

NBC11 News has learned that donation totaled $10,000.

The city attorney is now reviewing payroll records to see if it all adds up.
