SAN FRANCISCO -- About 300 students at San Francisco State University have been notified that they may have been exposed to tuberculosis. One student reported an active case of tuberculosis and now classmates are being asked to participate in screenings for the respiratory illness.Representatives from the city's department of public health were on campus Thursday performing the tests.
"The Department of Public Health isn't looking at this like a massive spread. What we're looking at is, OK, we know. Let's start testing," said Albert Angelo of San Francisco State University. The school's health educator said tuberculosis bacteria is airborne, but it takes extremely close and prolonged contact to spread.
