Pedicure-Linked Infections Continue To Rise

POSTED: 10:36 am PST December 23, 2004
UPDATED: 10:42 am PST December 23, 2004

The number of skin infections linked to pedicures is on the rise again in Santa Clara County.

A health department spokeswoman said a total of 108 cases are now being investigated.

The number is an increase of 13 cases over the past week and more than double the number reported since the beginning of December.

The county started getting reports from doctors in May. They say patients came in with boils and skin ulcers on the feet and lower legs.

The sores are linked to bacteria found in whirlpool foot baths that have not been cleaned properly.
