POSTED: 8:31 am PST December 17, 2004
UPDATED: 8:53 am PST December 17, 2004

The number of women reporting skin infections linked to pedicures has more than doubled in the past two weeks in Santa Clara County.

The county health department started getting reports from doctors in May.

Health officials say patients came in with boils and skin ulcers on the feet and lower legs. The sores are linked to bacteria found in whirlpool footbaths.

There are now 52 cases waiting for review in Santa Clara County. There are also 37 suspected cases and six confirmed cases.
